A wall chart is used that clearly highlights clients' milestones and successes. The provider has developed a scratchcard to help clients see how they are progressing. Clients clearly identify how far they have progressed and what they have achieved. They understand what they need to do to improve. Tutors encourage clients to think about progression in terms of small, appropriate milestones towards employment, college or other education programmes. Clients often progress onto ICT or retailing programmes.

Retention and achievement rates are outstanding. All clients on ESOL training programmes achieved the targets on their individual learning plans. Ninety per cent of clients on basic skills achieved the targets on their individual learning plans. Basic skills and ESOL learners work towards an appropriate accredited external qualification.

There is good achievement of qualifications and/or certificates. There is good recognition of personal achievements. Certificates are awarded for good progress towards specific targets such as attendance and improved confidence. Learners are highly motivated by the achievement of these certificates. For many learners these are the first certificates that they have ever achieved.
