Across the country, dance is increasing in popularity. 4.8 million people take part in community dance, and 13% of the population are attending performances of dance. Amongst children and young people more are now taking dance exams. In 2006 17,135 young people took GCSE Dance, an 8.9% rise on the year before.

The opportunities outlined in this document show how the Government, the Dance sector, and the Education sector are coming together at different levels both within schools and beyond to enhance the take-up of dance by children and young people.
