VALUE ADDED

About the value added measures

Separate value added measures covering pupils' progress between KS2 and KS3, and between KS3 and GCSE/GNVQ, have been published annually in the main secondary school performance tables since 2002.

A pilot publication was produced in January 2004 alongside the 2003 GCSE/GNVQ secondary school tables showing a value added measure covering KS2-GCSE/GNVQ, based on the existing GCSE/GNVQ point scores. The January publication described the methodology for calculating KS2-GCSE/GNVQ school value added measures in detail, and gave the results for 243 participating schools.

Value added scores based on the revised point scoring system cannot be presented in the same way as in the existing performance tables (where measures are currently centred around 100), and this pilot publication therefore demonstrates a range of possible alternative presentations.
