How the Tables were compiled

In all cases pilot schools have been asked to check, and if necessary amend, both their examination results and the characteristics of their pupils which are used in the calculation of CVA. Pilot schools were also given the option of anonymising their results if they wished to do so.

Results data, including the VA and CVA measures, were checked by schools during the regular checking exercise in Autumn 2005. Pupil characteristics were taken or derived from information provided by schools on PLASC. Schools were asked as part of the pilot to confirm their pupil characteristic information in June 2005 and offered a second opportunity to do this as a part of the regular checking exercise in Autumn 2005. Background information, such as the school name and address, was also provided and checked by schools.

If the school did not confirm that it had checked its test/examination results the initial 'R' appears after its age range. If the school did not confirm that it had checked its background information, the initial 'B' appears after its age range. If both 'R' and 'B' are present, the school did not confirm that it had checked either.
