ABOUT THE PILOT

The Pilot enabled us to test a range of indicators reflecting achievements in English and maths, at both Level 1 and Level 2 in the National Qualifications Framework, and including both GCSEs and other Level 2 Key Skills and Basic Skills qualifications regarded as functional equivalents.

To demonstrate achievement in GCSE maths, any maths GCSE qualification (including statistics) has been recognised. To demonstrate achievement in GCSE English, any English GCSE qualification except English Literature has been recognised. To demonstrate functional English and maths achievements through Key Skills and Basic Skills, only Key Skills qualifications in communication and application of number, and Basic Skills qualifications in literacy and numeracy, have been recognised.

The Pilot was conducted on a national scale, covering all schools published in the main Secondary Achievement and Attainment Tables.
