About the site
The In Your Area website allows users to access key facts and figures about education and skills.
Where possible the information is displayed at a very local level, for example Parliamentary Constituency, and all information is displayed at the lowest possible level.
The information available on the site includes :

Accessing information on the site
Information can be accessed in two ways:
Postcode search - please enter an English postcode or location name in the box and click Go. If the postcode entered is a valid postcode the system will display a variety of data items relating to the Parliamentary Constituency for that postcode.
Interactive Map - by moving your cursor over the map a list of Local Authorities in each region is displayed. By clicking on either the map or the name of the region you can "drill down" to the required Parliamentary Constituency.

This section contains information about the latest updates to the site.
Postcode Distances Tool
This tool allows you to calculate the straight line distance between two postcodes. A batch facility is also provided.
Users should note that the Postcode Distances Tool should not be used as a definitive measure of distance for school admissions purposes.

National Summary
This section contains national summary information relating to Education and Skills.
Regional Outcome Indicators
This is a link to the Government Office Network Regional Co-ordination unit site. This site provides access to the Regional Outcome Indicators - a series of 22 indicators designed to:
- cover key policy themes, including economy, welfare and skills and community safety
- incorporate regional, local authority and lower level statistics where possible
- be used by Ministers and officials with a cross-cutting interest in delivery as a "way in" to questions of regional and local variation in performance.
The site contains a datasheet for each of the 22 Regional Outcome Indicators, each of which features tables of data relating to that indicator, along with maps and charts.
Performance Tables
This is a link to the School and College Performance Tables site on the Department for Education and Skills website. The performance tables site allows users to access Key Stage and GCSE data about individual schools.
Floor Targets Interactive
This is a link to the Floor Targets Interactive website produced by the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit of the Department for Communities and Local Government. Floor Targets Interactive (FTI) is a web-based system for monitoring progress towards Public Service Agreement Floor Targets. FTI enables users to examine performance at the national, regional and local levels.
EduBase
This is a link to the EduBase website. EduBase is a register of all educational establishments in England and Wales, maintained by the Department for Education and Skills. It allows both the general public and government officials to access up to date information.
Changing the size of the text
Microsoft Internet Explorer users:
- Using the menu bar at the top of the window select 'internet options' - this can be found under either the 'View' menu or the 'Tools' menu
- Click the button that says 'Accessibility'
- Click the box next to 'Ignore fonts now showing on web pages' so that it now shows a tick
- Click OK, then OK again to close the internet options panel
- Select the 'View' option from the Menu bar
- Select 'text size'. Another menu will pop up - choose the text size you prefer form this list.
Netscape Navigator 4+ users:
- Connect to the internet so that the browser window is open
- Select 'Edit' from the menu bar
- Select 'Preferences'
- Select 'Appearance'
- Select 'Font'. Change the 'variable' and 'fixed width font' to your preferred option.
