Supporting parents

Local authorities (LAs) are legally required to provide information to parents on the childcare and nursery education provision that is available to them locally. This is done by LAs running a Families Information Service (FIS).

FIS are required to provide information on services, facilities and publications that may assist parents, and young people up to the age of 20. Full details are available on the FIS page.

Family Information Direct is a programme from the Department aiming to deliver better outcomes for children and parents by ensuring that people with parental responsibility have access to all the information they require.
