Securing sufficient childcare guidance

This guidance will help LAs fulfil their duties to secure sufficient childcare and provide information, advice and training to childcare providers. Sufficient childcare means providing enough childcare for parents to work, or to access training which will lead to work. The duty to secure sufficient childcare came into force on 1 April 2008.

The duty to secure information, advice and training for childcare providers, and other duties and powers related to LAs' role in market facilitation came into force in October 2007.

These duties are being introduced under sections 6-10 and section 13 of the Childcare Act 2006.
