Integrated Qualifications Framework (IQF)
The Integrated Qualifications Framework (IQF) is a set of approved qualifications and/or their component parts that allows:
- progression
- continuing professional development (CPD)
- mobility across the children's workforce.
It supports the vision of having one children's workforce and the culture of integrated working, in which the common core of skills and knowledge are embedded.
The IQF is being developed by the Children's Workforce Network (CWN), which includes organisations representing a range of sectors across the children's workforce.
Implementation is underway and is expected to continue until the end of 2010. From October 2008 all new relevant qualifications should go through IQF processes, and existing qualifications should apply when they are reviewed.
The IQF holds qualifications up to, and including, degree and postgraduate level.
How does a qualification get onto the IQF?
Inclusion on the IQF requires qualifications and their component parts to meet the four IQF inclusion principles; that they:
- are fit for purposes of the sectors concerned
- meet regulatory requirements where appropriate
- develop through CWN members working together to identify and develop qualifications and components, that can be supported and shared across the workforce
- reflect the common core of skills and knowledge for the children's workforce.
