Staying safe

Staying Safe was a major consultation which provided the opportunity for the Government to consult with parents, children, young people, our partners and the children's workforce on children's safety.

In response to the consultation the Government published the Staying Safe Action Plan. The Action Plan outlines the key commitments the Government will be taking forward over the current Comprehensive Spending Review period (April 2008 - March 2011) to improve children and young people's safety.

Staying Safe is the first ever action plan on improving children and young people's safety, and its main aims are to:

Staying safe: Next steps

The Staying Safe: Action Plan set out a number of commitments to be taken forward during the Comprehensive Spending Review. These include:

The new PSA to improve children and young people's safety will drive delivery of the actions and underlines the priority which the Government attaches to this issue. At a local level, the PSA is reflected in the National Indicator Set (NIS) for Local Government. The NIS will measure national priorities. For children and young people's safety, there are 16 indicators in the NIS.
