Healthy Care
Healthy Care is a national programme developed by the National Children's Bureau (NCB) and funded by the DCSF which aims to promote a healthy care environment where looked-after children and young people:
- experience a genuinely caring, supportive, stable and secure relationship with at least one committed, trained, experienced and supported carer
- live in an environment that promotes health and wellbeing within the wider community
- have opportunities to develop personal and social skills to care for their health and wellbeing now and in the future
- receive effective healthcare, assessment, treatment and support.
It provides a multi-agency framework for local partnerships to achieve the five outcomes for children set out in Every Child Matters.
What does the Healthy Care programme do?
It provides a national standard that reflects best operational practice and offers a set of tools and resources for local organisations to:
- audit local services
- develop action plans
- involve children, young people and their carers
- evidence progress and provide information for inspection
- develop training programmes for carers
- strengthen national and regional support networks.
