Save Local programmes evaluation
Sure Start local programmes (SSLPs) are a key part of delivering the Government’s aim to support children, families and communities through the integration of early education, childcare, health and family support.
They are based in areas of disadvantage and aim to improve the health and well being of families and young children under four, so that children have a greater opportunity to flourish when they go to school.
There are two levels of evaluation of SSLPs – the national evaluation which looks at all the programmes as a whole, and local level, where each programme undertakes an evaluation of their own programme:
- Sure Start local-programmes research
- national evaluation of Sure Start local programmes
- evaluation of mini Sure Starts
- speech and language.
The impact of Sure Start on social services
This study took place in four local authorities in the north east of England and examines the relationships between SSLPs and one of the key mainstream agencies, local authorities with social services responsibilities (SSDs):
