Local activity
Local activity driving forward social and emotional development policy
A wide range of interventions are being implemented locally within Sure Start local programmes and children's centres to improve social and emotional development among disadvantaged families. Activities include:
- parenting courses and workshops for parents and carers to help parents understand children's behaviour and to learn how best to respond to their children
- home visiting of families experiencing difficulties to help increase the confidence and independence of the family
- bringing parents together to share experiences and help support each other
- health visitor drop-in clinic providing developmental advice including behavioural difficulties and changes in sleeping and eating habits
- early identification of parent/child relationship difficulties
- locally produced booklets on social and emotional development topics.
