Targeted Mental Health in Schools programme

Targeted Mental Health in Schools (TaMHS) is a three-year pathfinder programme aimed at supporting the development of innovative models of therapeutic and holistic mental health support in schools for children and young people aged five to 13 at risk of, and/or experiencing, mental health problems; and their families.

The programme began in April 2008 when 25 LAs and their corresponding Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) commenced pathfinder work. The LAs and PCTs taking part in this first phase are: Blackburn with Darwen, Blackpool, Brighton and Hove, Bury, Cornwall, Coventry, Gateshead, Gloucestershire, Hackney, Kent, Leicester City, Leeds, Lincolnshire, Luton, Merton, Norfolk, North East Lincolnshire, Northumberland, Reading, Suffolk, Southwark, Shropshire, Sunderland, Swindon, and Wolverhampton.

TaMHS evidence-based guidance
A summary of existing knowledge and practice about effective interventions to help children in a school context who would broadly be described as having behavioural, social or emotional problems. Intended for anyone involved in planning services for the TaMHS pathfinder project, including senior school staff.

TaMHS roll-out

The national roll-out was launched on 18 November 2008. LAs and their corresponding PCTs were invited to submit expressions of interest to take part in a process to select 55 phase 2 and 72 phase 3 TaMHS pathfinders. For more information, please read the press notice.

The selection process has now been completed. 
 
Phase 2 - 55 LAs and their partner PCTs will enrol in April 2009 and will receive a funding grant for two years until March 2011.

Phase 3 - 72 LAs and their partner PCTs will enrol in April 2010 and will receive funding for one year until March 2011.
