Sure Start contributes to children's health and to reducing health inequalities by making health services more accessible to the most disadvantaged children and families.
The overall focus of our health strategy is on prevention and early identification of needs. Many of Sure Start's services are not primarily health-focused, for example childcare and early learning experiences, but all will have outcomes which affect the health and wellbeing of young children and their families.
The Children's Wellbeing and Inclusion Team is responsible for the unit's targets on health and social and emotional development. For more information visit our Wellbeing section or see the targets here.
Data sharing
Please click here to view a letter which was sent by the Sure Start, Extended Schools and Childcare Group in November 2002, clarifying current legislation on sharing basic personal information between NHS bodies and Sure Start partnerships.
Consultation
The Department of Health led a public consultation, called Choosing Health? A consultation on action to improve people's health. The outcomes of the consultation process feed in to the Public health White Paper.

Infant mortality
The Department of Health has published an implementation plan for delivering the recommendations and themes of the Health Inequalities Infant Mortality PSA Target Review. The actions in the plan will contribute to meeting the target, and to improving infant and child health for all disadvantaged groups.
