Using the Development Journals workshops
Early Support provides four developmental journals that provide the basis for discussion with all the practitioners supporting the family, to record and celebrate their child's progress through the early years.
Four one-day workshops have been developed to help everyone get the best out of the journals. They help practitioners and families to use the journals with confidence to support a child's development and learning.
The four workshops are:
- Using the Monitoring Protocol for Deaf Babies and Children
- Using the Developmental Journal for Babies and Young Children with Down Syndrome
- Using the Developmental Journal for Babies and Young Children with Visual Impairment
- Using the Developmental Journal.

About the workshops
These one-day workshops enable participants to make effective use of the Early Support development journals helping families, and the practitioners supporting them, to celebrate the progress of the children and better understand their needs across all areas of their development.
Who they are for
The workshops are valuable for all practitioners and parents/carers and children and their families from birth to 5 years or soon after identification.
How you'll benefit
Participants will learn how to use the journal confidently to show how a child is doing and what parents can do to promote development further. The journal is proving invaluable in enabling parents/carers to share their observations of their child and gives a basis for discussions with practitioners. It supports decision-making, informed choice and the drawing up of Early Support family service plans.
Where workshops are held
These workshops are held at various locations in England depending on demand. The aim is to run workshops for groups of no more than 20 participants (and not less than ten). The workshop can also be arranged in other locations if there is sufficient interest.
