Frequently asked questions: About Early Support
Why has the Early Support website moved?
As part of a Government programme to make information more readily available to members of the public, the Early Support site has been moved to Every Child Matters.
What is the Early Support programme?
Early Support is a programme for families with babies or children under five with additional support needs associated with disability or emerging special educational need. It's designed to help families access better co-ordinated services for their children, and is particularly relevant where families are in contact with lots of different professionals. For more information, visit What is Early Support?
What is the Government's expectation for Early Support?
The Government has made it clear that it expects all LAs to use Early Support principles and practice to integrate services for disabled children and their families. Early Support is relevant to anyone who works with young children and their families. It impacts on the work of front-line professionals, working in health, education, social services and voluntary organisations. Driving across universal and specialist services, it also impacts on managers and commissioners in LAs, health services and PCTs.
Early Support is part of a core offer for the Aiming High for Disabled Children programme.
Early Support is expected to become a standard, integral part of the development of children's services everywhere in the same way that other initiatives like Sure Start Children's Centres and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) are being extended across the country.
Where can I find more information about contacts and useful information?
Early Support has a list of Useful contacts and links to other organisations that may be of use to you.
