Aiming High for Disabled Children (AHDC): Better support for families, launched in May 2007, is the transformation programme for disabled children's services. AHDC is jointly delivered by the DCSF and the Department of Health (DH). AHDC - Best practice to common practice provides an update on the key developments in the programme since the launch. The AHDC conference, Transforming best practice to common practice held on Wednesday 3 June 2009, highlighted the progress made as a result of the Aiming High for Disabled Children (AHDC) programme. The conference materials are now available  and they include Ministers’ speeches and presentations from the day.

Delivering the programme

The Government wants disabled children to be a priority, both nationally and locally: a commitment confirmed in the NHS operating framework, the Child Health Strategy, Healthy lives, brighter futures and in the Children's Plan

Supported by substantial new funding and measures designed to make the system work better, the Government is assisting professionals, managers and children's services commissioners to deliver the programme. A range of resources are available under each of the following five work streams:

For details of other programme areas, go to the 'Other areas of work' page.

The AHDC resource list includes publications and tools that can help local areas put the programme into practice. It lists the service type to which each resource applies, as well as explaining how to access each resource.

The programme is monitored by a Ministerial Implementation Group to ensure key stakeholders are brought together and all interests are represented.

Email the AHDC implementation team with questions, comments or suggestions.
