Health and safety
The statutory responsibility for the health and safety of school staff and pupils rests with the employer of staff at the school. Health and safety responsibilities in schools is governed by the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. This is enforced by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). LAs as employers have responsibilities for protecting the health and safety of staff, pupils and visitors on the school premises, and on organised activities. The Government has produced a range of guidance including that on management of the health and safety of pupils on educational visits.
