Behaviour in schools

News: School behaviour group publishes report

In December 2002 the Government set out to improve behaviour and attendance in schools. The resulting national programme for improving behaviour and attendance in schools has several important aims:

Fundamental to the national programme is the Behaviour Improvement Programme (BIP). The programme funds LAs who in turn fund 'cluster areas' that use the money to specifically target behaviour and attendance in schools.

A key component of the BIP is implementation of multi-agency teams, known as behaviour and education support teams (BESTs). Their role is to promote emotional well-being, positive behaviour and school attendance, by identifying and supporting those with, or at risk of developing, emotional and behavioural problems.
