Quality standards for information, advice and guidance (IAG)
New quality standards for the provision of information, advice and guidance (IAG) to young people were launched on 31 October 2007. They set out the DCSF's expectations of the IAG services that LAs will commission and manage after they assume responsibility for these services in April 2008.
The standards are also for use by providers of IAG such as Connexions services, learning providers, voluntary and community-service organisations, and others.
Good IAG helps young people make the right learning and career choices, and enables them to find answers to the questions and issues which can arise in their personal lives.
LAs must have regard to the following in delivering Connexions:
All provision overseen by the 14–19 Partnership and in wider LA services should meet the Quality standards for young people's information, advice and guidance (IAG) (October 2007). These standards, developed through extensive involvement of practitioners, have been widely endorsed.
