Save Targeted youth support (TYS): Emerging practice
Targeted youth support (TYS) is an integral part of the Government's approach to reforming young people's services. A key Youth Matters commitment, it needs to be effectively implemented in all English LAs during 2008.
In January 2006, 14 children's trusts took part in the TYS pathfinder. The pathfinders worked through the TYS change process, which gave them the method and tools to redesign TYS services and delivery models in order to improve outcomes for vulnerable young people. A national support program was rolled out to the remaining 136 English LAs during 2007.
Based on interviews with individuals working across a range of organisations, and with young people themselves, the emerging practice from around the country has been captured to help LAs, and others responsible for implementing TYS, fulfil their responsibilities.
These case studies, aimed at senior managers, professionals, front-line practitioners and stakeholders involved in implementing TYS, are now available under the following categories.
TYS implementation case studies
These case studies, categorised by the core components needed to effectively implement TYS (the delivery framework), highlight the ways in which s and the voluntary and community sector are working to implement TYS. They outline the challenges faced, the actions taken and their impact, and offer advice for others in similar situations.
TYS-related outcome case studies
Through early intervention and prevention, TYS aims to help vulnerable young people before their problems escalate. These case studies look at the impact of TYS on related outcomes such as substance misuse, homelessness and teenage pregnancy.
TYS in-depth case studies
These case studies focus on how the TYS reforms are being implemented in one geographical area and the impact this is having on practitioners, services and vulnerable young people.
