Can you help me to help others stay safe and have fun when using the internet or playing video games?

The Prime Minister asked me to carry out an assessment of video games and the internet, and how they might affect you. The aim of my review is to make sure you can play video games and use the internet safely, and I need your help to advise children and parents across the country.

What do you have to do?

All you have to do is to write half a page (roughly 200 words), make a short video, or draw a picture giving your advice to other children and their parents on how children can stay safe and have fun when surfing the net or playing video games.

What do you win?

All the winning entries will be presented to the Prime Minister in the final Byron Review report. Winners will also be invited to London where they will help Dr Byron launch the report to the public at the end of March.

You can enter any or all of these three competitions:

  1. How to be ‘Netsmart’
Give advice to other children on how to be safe and have fun online; or to parents telling them how they can help their children remain safe whilst enjoying the internet.
  2. How to be ‘Gamesmart’
Give advice to other children on how to have fun and be safe when playing video games; or to parents on how to choose the right video games and game settings for their children.
  3. Design a Front Cover
Design a front cover for the Byron Review report. The design should be on the theme of having fun and staying safe when using the net or playing video games.

You can use whatever media you want but remember:

  • If you are writing your advice, your entry should not be more than half a page of A4 (200 words)
  • If you are making a video, your entry should be no longer than 2 minutes
