Better regulation

Reducing unnecessary bureaucracy

The Department’s Better Regulation Unit (BRU) coordinates the reduction of bureaucracy and regulation resulting from DCSF policies. We are committed, by 2010, to reducing the number of data requests made on the public sector by 30 per cent and the administrative burden on the private sector by 25 per cent. This equates to £54.2 million of savings.

We aim to ensure that new policy and regulations create the minimum amount of bureaucracy; and follow the red tape-cutting agenda set out by the Better Regulation Executive (BRE).

If you are directly affected by our policies, we need your practical suggestions for further improvement. Is there a particular piece of bureaucracy that you consider is unnecessary? Do you have a practical suggestion for improvement? We would like to hear from you!
